What is Bastyr Fest?

Your opportunity to connect and celebrate the Bastyr community through fun social virtual events! Most sessions are an hour long, so you can pick and choose where to pop in and out throughout the day as your schedule allows. There will also be features for 1:1 and group networking. Stay tuned as we continue to build out this platform!

Who is invited?

Everyone! Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends. Access to some of the sessions are restricted to alumni, faculty, and staff registrants only. 

What kind of sessions are offered?

Sessions include alumni networking socials, morning meditation followed by a brunch cook-a-long, an herbal cocktail class, and an interview with featured guest, alum, and Tedx presenter, Valerie Segrest, on food sovereignty and access to traditional foods. Read Valerie's bio below.

About Featured Guest Speaker, Valerie Segrest

Valerie Segrest, an enrolled member of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, serves as the Native American Agriculture Fund’s Regional Director for Native Food and Knowledge Systems. She has a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Health Sciences from Bastyr University and a Master of Arts in Environment and Community. Ms. Segrest has dedicated her work in the field of Native American Nutrition towards the efforts of the food sovereignty movement rooted in education, awareness and overcoming barriers to accessing traditional foods for tribal communities throughout North America. Ms. Segrest has co-authored several publications including the books, “Feeding the People, Feeding the Spirit: Revitalizing Northwest Coastal Indian Food Culture” and “Feeding Seven Generations: A Salish Cookbook."

Valerie aims to inspire and enlighten others about the importance of a nutrient-dense diet through a culturally appropriate, common sense approach to eating.
